Web3 vs. Sex Work

In 2019, Nudie Magazine began as a print only promotional platform for marginalized artists. We sold out each issue, never to print again. We thought the internet was too vast and too unprotected a place for such valuable art, and such powerful vulnerabilities. While the intention was to disrupt a heteronormative colonial industrial-capitalist patriarchy by using sexual imagery to convey political content, we needed the minting of these works of art to be one of a kind. We were trying to protect our artists. We succeeded, but fell short.
Confined by web2, we lost nearly 10k followers in 2021 when our Instagram was deleted. Our community of artists and their fans dissolved overnight. We haven't printed another issue since, but we've been burning with a need to create, and deeply inspired by DeFi and NFT space. Instead of our print-only approach, what if we went a non-fungible route?
We thought, what if Nudie Magazine developed a community that would allow Black, BIPOC, LGBTQ, womxn and Non-Binary people to generate more than a commission? What if rather than a single individual paying another individual in fiat for their art, what if a community came together to monetarily uplift and amplify non-majority voices, and educate and encourage our friends and family about what it means to onboard into web3? Instead of printing a smut mag, what if we made a smut ecosystem, built to put real wealth into the hands of sex workers?

We've been taking note of the incredible financial liberation happening in web3, and the way businesses and organizations are beginning to take shape under flat hierarchies, and becoming autonomous through member voting and participation. It made us miss you all even more. It reminded us about how things started, print only, to protect the creative content of the artists. No digital copies, you know, so nothing can be replicated and stolen? Things have changed a lot in the last 3 years and needless today, print has become less than secure, and blockchain technology is proving much more effective in protecting artists' assets.
And we want help! This is a big driver's seat, we could fit so many wonderful people on it with us. Heck, it may be nice to take our hands off the wheel and see what the community can come up with without us.
We'll be building a Discord with the help of HomeRoom.Club, and working with blockchain developers and artists to mint Nudie NFT's, and more. What if the next Nudie Mag release party was in the Metaverse? You know any drag queens with an avatar yet? Nudie DAO will begin to take shape over the next few months, so as the community snowballs, begin discussing rolls amongst each other if this is a ship you want to wear a goofy sailor's costume on. We just want a ticket.
